Activities Planned
- Waterfall Challenge
The thrill of this challenge is trying to raft behind the raging waterfall. The force of the water as it falls and splashes makes it almost impossible for any raft, no matter how coordinated the team, to get past the splashes. The excitement comes from attempting to go behind the rapid, which is nearly impossible. However, during the dry seasons, when water volumes are low, it is reportedly possible.
- Zip lining
Rapids Camp has one of the most amazing Zip lines in Kenya cutting across Rapids Falls. The Zipline is 250 m long and has 110 m on top of the river which make it unique in Kenya. If you are looking for a Zipline with a difference then don’t look further.
- Water Glides
The Sagana River glides are natural glides that involve sliding into a whirlpool that spins you around a number of times before you are spilled into the mighty Sagana River in a section of the river that has section of the river has grade 3 rapids.
- White Water Kayaking
The one-man kayaks at Rapids Camp encapsulate you inside a pod as you paddle down the violent river. For some reason, you feel like the kayaks are a bit ‘safer’ than the rafts, but strangely it is so difficult to stay put inside the pod.
Other Extra Activities at extra cost
- White water rafting at Usd.85 per person –Full rafting trip
By far this is the most popular water sport at Rapids Camp. It’s essentially rafting downstream. When rafters reach points along the river with sharp descents and obstacles, ropes are attached to the raft for them to hold on to. The screams and shouts as unexpected turns appeared around corners added to the amusement. After a group of rafters makes it to the still parts of the river, a proud moment sweeps through the air.
They then perform the traditional gesture of lifting their paddles with pride and satisfaction before breaking into victory songs.
- Bungee Jumping at Usd.75
Rapids Camp Sagana offers visitors bungee jumping activities taking place on the banks of the Tana River. The stage for bungee jumping is a 60-meter-high steel tower, where you climb the pinnacle to bounce off.
- Visit Mwea Rice Plantations at Approximately Usd.25 per person (Min 02 Pax)
Mwea Irrigation Settlement Scheme (MIS) is located in Kirinyaga County and falls within two sub counties i.e. Mwea East and Mwea West sub counties. Development of the scheme started in 1954 from the Tebere section with about 65 acres in irrigation farming and has since grown to the current gazetted area of 30,050 acres. Out of these, 22,000 acres have been developed for paddy rice production while the remaining area is utilized for settlement, public utilities and growing of subsistence crops. Since then, expansion has been done to the freehold area (referred to as out-growers) surrounding the scheme by a total of 8,600 acres; hence the total area under paddy rice production in MIS is 28,600 acres of irrigation farming.
